My favourite womenswear collections/designers from Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016

This post brings me to part 2 of my favourites. Yesterday you read about my favourite menswear collections/designers and today I am back with my favourite womenswear collections/designers. Shortlisting for this blog post has been an extremely tough job as there were so many amazing collections but none the less, I have finally succeeded in bringing you the best of the best. Let's start without any further ado.

Amit Aggarwal's Couture Collection 'Magma'

This was a show that totally blew my mind with its neutral to psychedelic character. Unexpected voluminous shapes that were fluid and light, infused with feminity were a beautiful way in which Amit Aggarwal interpreted ‘Magma’ based on color, surface and form. Pretty drapes, hand painting, quilting, pleating, laser cut work made this collection explode on the runway. Amit Aggarwal spoke passionately about this collection, "Molten magma inspired me, not only visually, but also for its relevance to human emotions. The eruption of something that's bubbling under, creating a spectacle and then giving a new surface upon cooling held its meaning closer to many parallels of human life. I've interpreted the idea visually and metaphorically through a series of couture creations that has just been a part of the Paris Fashion Week. I've pushed myself to work with colour and form unknown to me to create an unusual language of creativity.” For me this collection was a pleasant break from the florals and pastels and was definitely the bestest best of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016.

Gaurang's 'Calico' Collection

Gaurang's was one show I had marked on my calendar the day I got the schedule because this was one show I wasn't going to miss! The collection lived up to more than the hype that was created around it and it was so nice to see the mommy to be Carol Gracias grace the ramp. Influenced by the the early 20th century Indian royalty, Gaurang beautifully paired traditional Indian textiles with vintage silhouettes. He showcased a mix of 24 dresses, gowns and anarkalis and 16 sarees crafted from exquisite hand-woven textiles in Khadi, Uppada and Kota using the Jamdani technique. Gaurang spoke about his inspiration, "Traditional Chikankari embroidery finds a canvas in the Jamdani adding its charm to this stately fabric. The legacy of the princely city of Lucknow, Chikankari is an iconic Indian hand embroidery technique that is both subtle and stunning. Showcasing iconic weaves and techniques in all their unfettered glory, 'Calico' emphasizes the rich and vibrant history of Indian craftsmanship while championing the Indian woman of today." The vintage styling added to the appeal of the collection. This is one designer who proves himself season after season and is a guy who is going to go a really long way.

Shivan & Narresh's ‘Léger Leisure’ Collection

No one in this country can beat Shivan & Narresh when it comes to beach and holiday wear. Their 'Léger Leisure’ collection this season was inspired by French painter Fernand Léger’s cubist work. Eye catching geometric prints, corals, mint, aqua mixed with shimmer, sequins, and in some pieces leather, the collection was a feast for the eyes. From swimsuits, maillots, trikinis, cover-ups to jumpsuits, dresses and saris with off shoulder blouses, they were all super glamourous. This was a collection clearly perfect for destination weddings.

Surendri's 'Dot' Collection

Yogesh Chaudhary’s ‘Surendri’ label presented the ‘Dot’ story, a collection inspired by a glamorous cosmic journey. Constellations, moon surfaces and thermal radiation patterns were used to create an amazing mix of textures and silhouettes. Pleated dresses, draped saris, funky skirts, gorgeous lehengas with circular motifs and exquisite foiling embroidery technique, cut out gowns along with my favourite grecian draped lehengas especially the purple one made the collection a stunner. I have never missed a "Surendri' show and this collection just proves why.

Anita Dongre's 'Love Notes' Collection

You have already read my raving about Anita Dongre's menswear collection, but the womens collection was no less in comparison. I was woved by the graceful collection clearly inspired by Anita's all time inspiration - Rajasthan! Sophisticated and opulent, Anita's signature gota-patti and resham embroidery adorned the gorgeous creations of this royalty inspired collection. Blue, red and yellow combined with white, dark blue sets and yellow and maroon combinations made stunning ensembles. I loved the way the dupattas were draped. The collection had an international appeal married with traditional designs and the collection was absolutely wearable while creating an air of fantasy. An epic collection is what this would be and the cutest showstopper this season - Sonakshi Sinha made the show even more epic with her bubbliness!
