My favourite beauty looks from Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 and backstage buzz experience

Lakmé India is a brand women in this country swear by since the last 50 years. It was the country's first cosmetic brand to introduce make up to Indian women and has constantly striven to evolve, experiment and innovate to keep up with all the trends globally. I remember when I had to buy my first lipstick, my mom made sure that it was a Lakmé lipstick, that's the faith women have in this brand. Lakmé has kept up with being fashionable forerunners by also bonding with the largest fashion event of its kind in the country, the Lakmé Fashion Week. This Summer/Resort 2016, Lakmé unveiled ‘Illuminate’ as the beauty statement for the season with their new Absolute Illuminate Range, a specially crafted range of illuminating makeup and skin care products. The whole focus at fashion week was to create the ‘Illuminate Look’ for the runway where the range was used to enhance the beauty and luminosity of the models, to increase the impact of the collections being showcased by the various designers.

All the models at Lakmé Fashion Week looked bold and beautiful on the ramp, but it was because of the efforts of the back end team of make up artists and hair stylists who made sure that everything looked stunning and on trend. Lakmé gave me an opportunity to cover backstage areas where the whole team was working hard to make the shows a success. I decided to cover the hair and make up areas and it was was absolutely chaotic there but with an electric buzz that charges you up! You could hear so many people speaking at the same time, asking for a foundation, concealer, nail paints, eye brushes, etc, etc yet end of the day it was an organized mess :) One corner had all the hair stylists with one model each doing their hair. Another corner had make up artists doing their make up and creating magic with those liners and lipstick brushes. Another bunch of people were looking after the nail art/body art that was required to be done. There was a supervisor constantly checking if anyone needed anything, whether the models were ready, giving instructions to be quick, and keeping a check on the time.

Backstage preps for the Be Beautiful and Eleven Eleven Show

The look was very natural and dewy with emphasis on just one aspect, like the lips in the first one and foil in the hair in the second.

The look here was just about the eyes with graphic patterns and smoky eyes being the focus, and the rest of the face being completely clean and luminous.

Within all the chaos, we found some top notch make up experts getting into the depth of things themselves. Natasha Nischol, one of the key Lakmé Fashion Week experts and partner at Fat Mu was spotted weaving her magic to create a variety of looks ranging from graphic to glamourous.

Namrata Soni, the other key Lakmé Fashion Week expert created looks encompassing winged eyeliners, colour pops, and ethereal hues.

It was so interesting to watch the looks being created in front of my very eyes that I was trying to capture every moment of my experience. While my loyal camera helped me shoot most of the madness backstage, my new friend - the LYF Earth smartphone made my job quicker as I snapped away on it too. The 13 Megapixel back camera and a instant auto focus feature helped me catch some quick shots, while the zoom feature let me take some great shots from far as it wasn't always possible to go close to the model to shoot since everyone was in a rush. My favourites Round Up

Most looks had the skin clean with an emphasis on lips and eyes using the Illuminate range. Mesmerizing colour combinations, grungy looks, dewy and angelic looks, glossy make up combinations, the range of looks were insane. I have zeroed down on my favourites from Lakmé Fashion Week to share them with you along with the expert's input and key product to create the look. Here you go!

Namrata Soni for the Gen-Next Show

Namrata created a fun and quirky look for the GenNext designers. She says,“In each look one feature was highlighted – winged eyeliners, a dash of colour, shimmery blues…complementing a collection that is youthful and very modern.”

Natasha says,“For Gaurang’s show, we have created a very dewy and angelic look that is very pretty, young and fresh. So we have, illuminated skin with soft cheeks, sheeny eyes. For the first segment of the show, some of the girls had rose-bud lips colour while the second segment, the girls had lip stains. The whole focus in this look is the skin that is radiating a soft glow. “

“I was so happy to hear that Anita Dongre wanted to get out of her comfort zone”, says Namrata Soni. “So we went for amazing braids that we attached to made them look like double-sided Mohawks and then added beautiful wild-flowers on them. The make-up was illuminated with a splash of colour! We used shades like electric pink and a few others, depending on the model’s skin tone.”
