Style Swap with Attic : Part 1 - My Comfort Look

The Style Swap with Attic was a super fun and crazy project! Something like this was a first time collaboration for me, and a first time for them as well with a fashion blogger.

You must be wondering what it was all about so let me finally spill the beans :)

The Attic Style Swap is all about bringing you out of your comfort zone. Attic know's that you have style(that's a pre-requisite you see) but they lay emphasis on giving you an alternative one. They assist you to try something new, something out of the box, experimenting with your look.

The project was divided into 3 outfits -
  • My Look - 1 that I was most comfortable in when I stepped out. This had to be a slightly formal look, which everyone around me identified me with
  • Their looks for me - 2 experimental looks which would be something different from my regular style
Firstly we decoded my comfort look and the conclusion about me was: Experiments with style, silhouette, colour, uber-chic! But simple, clean & elegant!

And this is my gorgeous comfort look that we kicked off the project with! :)

Dress - bYSI(Singapore)
Necklace - Gift
Clutch - Accessorize
Dimante Sandals - Giovanna(Singapore)
Well, this is just the beginning. The best part is yet to come - the part where they swapped my style! :) So keep watching this space to see what they did with me!

Chivas Studio 2012 - Strangers in the Night

When I received an invite to the exclusive Chivas Studio 2012 event this year, my happiness knew no bounds. After all how often does one get invited to a rich blend of cinema, art, installation and music – with the likes of Karan Johar, Rohit Bal and Karsh Kale coming together to showcase their eclectic talent.

Friendship, collaborations and creative brotherhood ushered in The Chivas Studio 2012. This years’ edition saw Karan Johar and Chivas presenting a short film directed by Shakun Batra, a tale of real friendship titled “Strangers in the Night” on the first day. The short movie is a quirky story of two friends with opposing ideas of love and romance and a ll it takes is one night and two strangers to change their beliefs. It marked the promising debut of Mohit Marwah - Anil Kapoor's nephew.

The cast of the movie with the makers

Rohit Bal transformed the lawns into an Urban Mela which was very simply an urban take on rural sensibilities. It was a cutting edge interpretation of the traditional Indian street fair. Rohit Bal had taken the essence of everything conventional in a street fair and given it a twist of urban and modern proportions. There were bird men and puppet looking giant figures walking all over the place(which was kinda scary), giant pin wheels were installed and as a prop each one of us were handed a colourful pin wheel - reminded me of my kiddie days.

The Karan Johar 'Student Of the Year' boys Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Kayoze Irani were in the forefront mingling with everyone along with Karan Johar. Arjun Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor were present to cheer for their cousin Mohit while Imran Khan was rooting for his best friend Shakun Batra. Boman  Irani as usual was at his charming best!

All in all it was a brilliant nite with awesome drinks by the renowned bartender Shatbhi Basu and some wonderful company and a great short film.

More on the who's who at the starry nite in this video

With the Chivas Studio being a global platform designed to foster creative collaborations between artistes and opinion leaders from various genres, resulting in unique, sensorial experiences and to promote the brand ethos of Generosity, Brotherhood, Luxury and Friendship, I hope to see a lot more in the future from them.

My New Hair Colour! :)

Well I finally coloured my hair right in time for my birthday this year! A nice chocolate shade from L’Oréal Paris Casting Crème Gloss hair colour range. Though I don't have any greys, I still love colouring my hair and have been doing so for the past 15 years. I'm not worried about any damage to my hair as I do take the required care as mentioned in my post here where I busted a lot of myths.

Normally I highlight my hair but this time I decided to try an even colour across my hair and you can see the fabulous results in the pics below! The chocolate shade looks lovely and uniform all over :)

Pros of using the Casting Crème Gloss
  • It is a no ammonia hair colourant
  • Gives your hair rich, visible tones and a stunning glossy shine
  • Enriched with Royal Jelly, a naturally occurring substance known for its rare nutritive and rejuvenating quality such that post colouring hair is left revitalized with a glossy shine
  • Its crème formula contains a special patented conditioning complex that helps protect the hair fibre inside and out for exceptionally soft voluptuous hair
  • It is easy to apply, takes just 20 minutes and comes in a do-it-yourself kit which saves unnecessary trips to the Salon
I highly recommend you to take the Say Yes To Colour pledge along with me and try the L’Oréal Paris Casting Crème Gloss . They have some really nice colours/shades which you can choose here depending upon your individuality and taste.

If you need any help, then send in your pictures to ritchstyles@gmail.com and I will help you choose a colour!

Happy Diwali!

Happy Diwali people!! Hope you had a fabulous, bright, sparkly and glittering one! :)

For those who don't know what Diwali is, Diwali is the 'Festival of lights' in India and involves the lighting of diyas i.e small clay lamps filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil in every Hindu household. PS and me lit oil lamps all over our house which looked sooooo pretty.

I stayed away from the fire crackers this year. The fire incident at Sivakasi(where there is a fire-cracker production factory) took away whatever little interest I had in burning the few I did over the last few years.

Deciding to wear a saree this year, I chose a pink one :) The sparkly effect was added by the silver blouse and pink shimmer slip I paired it with.

Pink Saree - Gift from Aunt (bought in Kolkatta)
Silver Blouse - Ri(t)ch Styles
Pink Shimmer Slip (worn under the saree) - Taken from another saree :)
Diamond Earrings - Myra

So how did you guys celebrate your Diwali? And what did you wear? I'm sure each one of you looked really pretty and handsome :)

A Wine trail by Four Seasons

Wine has lately become my most preferred drink, and catching up with friends over a glass of wine to unwind has been  my ideal way to de-stress. Also, sipping on wine along with my meals is something that I enjoy and have developed quite a liking for. What intrigues me a lot is the pairing of food with wine which I think is more of an art than science. So when an invite for the Four Seasons Wine Trail at Veda came to me, the thought of understanding the pairing of wine and food together to enhance a dining experience tempted me to say YES and I am glad I did! :)

Awesome wine, fabulously delicious food and some great learnings from the best in the wine industry made the afternoon an unforgettable one. The ambience of Veda was totally Rohit Bal style - flamboyant, mystic yet blingy and totally in sync for the mood of the event.

Clive Castellino, our wine connoisseur took us through the afternoon keeping us intrigued with the process of wine making to how to store it, to the process of drinking it and how to pair it with food. The most important thing that he said is that food should be paired in such a way with wine that it should never overpower the taste of the wine and vice-versa.

We tasted 4 varieties of wine that afternoon which included the whites, reds and the roses. Sadly due to the migraine issue that I suffer from, reds are a strict no no for me but that still didn't stop me from just tickling my tongue with it for a brief moment ;)

We have always known more about how to pair Continental and European food with wine hence an afternoon learning how Indian food can be paired with wine was the highlight!

Next time you go wine drinking remember the 4S's i.e. See, Swirl(to open up the aroma), Smell, Sip(roll it in your mouth and then swallow) to drink wine the right way.

Thank you Four Seasons and Veda for the experience and I would also like to thank Akshay Gopal from Ginger Claps for the invite as it was a well spent afternoon learning new things and meeting new people! :)

It's Candy Time!

There are days when I crave for candy and then there are days that I crave to wear candy coloured outfits :) Today was one of those days when I was craving both. While I could satiate my candy craving with a bag of candy, how could I satisfy my candy coloured outfit craving when I was already out of the house for the day? Well what are lunch breaks for at work? :) There you go - I spent my lunch break with a sandwich in one hand and my mouse in the other creating my candy coloured outfit collages and more or else satisfying that craving as well :D Results were candylicious! I'm sure you will agree too ;)

Hippie in Candy Land!

Candy Colours!

I can't wait to try these combinations soon!! Sooo excited! Such brightness is surely gonna drive the winter blues away when I party indoors in outfits like these :)

It's also my birthday month so it definitely is Candy Time!!! :D

Hair Colour Myths Busted! Say Yes to Colour!!!

Have you been wanting to colour your hair for a while, but are scared to do so because of the multiple myths about hair damage due to hair colour that you hear from time to time? Well don't be scared :) I've been colouring my hair for the last 15 years, and nothing scares me from continuing to do so. The world will talk! You decide for yourself what you wanna do after I bust some of the myths on hair colour in this post.

Myth 1: Colouring my hair will damage it, no matter what product I choose.
False: If you are careful in choosing the hair colour by checking on its ingredients, you can save yourself this worry totally. Use ammonia free colours. Also keep in mind that the colours being developed now are formulated to be extremely gentle on the hair as compared to the past. Some even have special ingredients meant to condition your hair and so your hair looks even healthier and shinier than before. In case you are colouring at home, follow the instructions carefully so that you don't over-process your hair.

Myth 2: Products made for coloured hair actually have no benefits.
False: Well it's obvious that the colour in your hair won't stay forever, even if you use products for coloured hair but they surely do help in preventing the fading from UV rays and water and in maintaining the colour longer. Use a colour preserving shampoo and conditioner which seal the cuticle and lock in the colour along with moisturising the hair thus preventing dryness and frizziness.

Myth 3: Colouring the hair will lead to greying of hair
False: Hair colour only penetrates the outer surface of your hair and not your follicles. If the hair inside your follicle is grey, it stays grey within regardless of colour. So basically hair colouring helps to cover grey rather than cause it.

Myth 4: Only a salon will give you best results
False: In case you are wanting to get lots of highlights done or a fashion colour not available off the shelf, then yes, its best to go to a salon. But if you are planning an even colour all over, then you can get great results at home too with the numerous products available in the market. Either ways keep a check on the ingredients.

Myth 5: Hair colour during pregnancy is harmful
True: Well why I say is true is not because the colour will enter your system if it touches your scalp or any of that crap, it's basically because of the inhalation of the strong chemical odour during colouring. Any sort of chemical exposure should be avoided especially in the first trimester.

Hopefully I will have helped those of you who have been contemplating about this to get onto my boat i.e. of those who colour their hair without any fear :) According to me, hair colouring in today's world is totally stress free if care is taken. If you don't want to take the efforts to take the minimum care also required then please don't colour your hair!

For me this time, I'm gonna be colouring my hair at home since I am planning an even colour all over and I am gonna be using the L’Oréal Paris Casting Crème Gloss It is a no ammonia hair colourant that gives your hair rich, visible tones and a stunning glossy shine. Enriched with Royal Jelly, a naturally occurring substance known for its rare nutritive and rejuvenating quality, Casting Crème Gloss ensures that post colouring hair is left revitalized with a glossy shine. Its crème formula contains a special patented conditioning complex that helps protect the hair fibre inside and out for exceptionally soft voluptuous hair. It is easy to apply, takes just 20 minutes and comes in a do-it-yourself kit which saves unnecessary trips to the parlour. I'm looking forward to trying it out!!

I've chosen the colour Chocolate for myself! What do you think about it?

Going from Day to Night with Shop InOnIt

I’ve been on a clothes shopping ban for a while now. Those of you on my Facebook page and Twitter must be knowing about it. Although it was meant to be only from the 20th August to 1st October, I still haven’t started shopping because I’m trying to see how long I can sustain. And I have been successful till today! But that hasn’t stopped me from making a wishlist since Dusshera, Diwali and my Birthday is coming up ;)

Dresses are predominantly what I shop for these days and are my first preference for all occasions. Shop InOnIt is an e-store from where I have 2 dresses on my wishlist. Over the weekend, I created two looks for each dress to take them from day to night as remixing my closet is something I love. Having a full time day job, I created a look for each dress to wear to work and then a look for each for a night out as I also socialize quite a bit.

The Blue Trapeze Dress

White and Blue is an evergreen combination and soothing for a day at work. Throw on a white blazer and a pair of wedge heels for comfort and keep the jewellery and make-up light.

Do drop your suggestions on what I can pair this dress with in your comments below!
