Going from Day to Night with Shop InOnIt

I’ve been on a clothes shopping ban for a while now. Those of you on my Facebook page and Twitter must be knowing about it. Although it was meant to be only from the 20th August to 1st October, I still haven’t started shopping because I’m trying to see how long I can sustain. And I have been successful till today! But that hasn’t stopped me from making a wishlist since Dusshera, Diwali and my Birthday is coming up ;)

Dresses are predominantly what I shop for these days and are my first preference for all occasions. Shop InOnIt is an e-store from where I have 2 dresses on my wishlist. Over the weekend, I created two looks for each dress to take them from day to night as remixing my closet is something I love. Having a full time day job, I created a look for each dress to wear to work and then a look for each for a night out as I also socialize quite a bit.

The Blue Trapeze Dress

White and Blue is an evergreen combination and soothing for a day at work. Throw on a white blazer and a pair of wedge heels for comfort and keep the jewellery and make-up light.

Do drop your suggestions on what I can pair this dress with in your comments below!

My Bag Essentials from L'occitane

L'occitane is a brand that has a history with me way before it launched in India. An ardent lover of natural ingredients in skincare products, I was introduced to L'occitane when my dad bought home some of the travel kits that were given out to him in business class on his international flights and then I started looking forward to them after every trip of his :) When the kits stopped, I started making my dad pick up products for me on his trips abroad. No 'To Buy' list ever had this brand missing!

When L'occitane launched in India, Delhi was the city they chose to launch in and I was utterly disappointed. Eventually they did launch in Mumbai (whew!) and so, now I don't have to wait for my dad's trips abroad anymore :) In this post, I am gonna share with you the awesome L'occitane products that are a part of my everyday life and you will find in my bag all the time.

Shea Butter Hand Cream

I have really dry skin and Shea Butter (highly moisturising and a naturally occurring source of vitamins A, C, and E) is a must use for me to keep my skin hydrated. With 20% Shea Butter, this award winning hand cream satisfies that condition for me and all I need is a pea sized amount :) Absorbing quickly into my skin, it leaves behind a pleasant aroma of jasmine. It also contains almond oil and honey which are moisturising agents too, so all in all a total winner for me. Priced at Rs 530/- for 30 ml, you can buy it here
Tip: Those of you who don't have dry skin may find it oily so try it before you buy it :)

Sorbet Verbena Cooling Gloss

The word 'cooling' instantly intrigued me when I first saw this gloss and sorbet is one of my favourite desserts, so the combination of the words called for an instant 'have-to-try' shout from within me :) And aren't I glad I did! This gloss provides a cooling sensation while it moisturises your lips. You can feel the tingling cooling sensation on your lips a few moments after you wear it. This also contains shea butter so you can happily say 'bye bye' to chapped lips. Priced at Rs. 890/- for 15 ml, you can pick it up here

Green Tea with Jasmine Solid Perfume

Worried about perfume bottles when you travel or find them bulky in your bag? Here is the perfect solution - a solid perfume. With the new rules and regulations about carrying liquids on flights, this came as a saviour for me. Also it doesn't contain alcohol so it's not harmful for the skin. Just apply a teeny weeny bit and you'll see the fresh and sweet fragrance of green tea and jasmine lingers on for the whole day. The packaging is absolutely lightweight. A must-try recommendation for me, this is priced at Rs. 650 for 9 gms and you can get your hands on this here

Shea Butter Foot Cream

After using the Shea Butter Hand Cream for a while, I decided to try the Shea Butter Foot Cream. This is a dry skin foot cream and hence perfect for me. With 15% Shea Butter and Lavender Oil, it keeps my feet and soles moisturized. My feet actually look rosy since I have started using this. Not greasy at all, just like the hand cream you need to use just a teeny weeny bit for it to do its job. After using a number of expensive foot creams that hardly had any effect, I found this value for money at Rs. 1650 for 150 ml which also can purchase here
Tip: This is specifically meant for dry skin and so don’t pick it up if you don’t have dry skin. Those who have dry skin, for best results use it day and night.

L'occitane is having special promotions in the month of October where it is giving out this clip pouch free. I Find it really cute and handy to carry all my bag essentials within my handbag.
If anyone of you is a L'occitane freak like me, drop in your comments and let me know!

Anjalee & Arjun Kapoor at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2012

Luxe Couture is what designers Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor are known for. I have always loved their opera style ball gowns, and that was the attraction for me to head to their show at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2012.

The brilliant luxurious collection that they unveiled is called “The Mogul Opera” and it had the signature touches of the designers - opera style ball gowns and ethnic bridal wear. Cleverly blending the 17th century Victorian era styles with the grandeur of the Mogul era, the creations comprised seductive gowns, lavishly ornate lehengas, heavily paneled floor hugging kurtas, remarkable corsets and sexy cholis. The collection was also a beautiful dedication to the country's rich Jamevaar heritage which was recreated in the amazing embroidery. With rich fabrics, gorgeous vibrant colours and tantalizing sensuous silhouettes that sparkled with twinkling embroidery, the presentation was a vision of beauty.

Embellishments formed the key note of the collection as Swarovski crystals and zardozi merged perfectly into the glittering lehengas on rich velvet. Luxurious satin was the basis of most garments, while Banarasi brocade was turned into shimmering borders. French lace appeared on the sleeves of voluminous anarkalis, which twinkled with crystals to create an enticing effect on the garments. Contrasts played a harmonious role in saris. Colours were vibrant with gold, fuchsia, orange, red and silver making a dramatic impact.

Men's wear had regal bundhgalas and dazzlings sherwanis. The shaded rust tonal embroidered Jodhpuri jackets, the Moghul inspired sherwanis and the stately jackets were truly meant for a royal entry.

Creating a sensation on the ramp was the very stunning Bipasha Basu in a maroon and gold paneled Jamevaar embroidered glittering corset blouse and lehenga with a seductive ornate neckline. The full luxurious petticoat under the voluminous creation gave that marked Victorian feel to the ensemble.

From the grandeur of yesteryears to the glamour of contemporary bridal wear, the designing duo combined the two segments to create exclusive statement pieces for the great day.

Do you too like the blend of the Victorian and the Indian ethnic styles like me? Would love to know :)

Tarun Tahiliani at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2012

Despite having been married for over 2 years, bridal fashion still excites me and that is why Trousseau Planning is one of the services I offer as a part of my Fashion Stylist Services. So when an invitation to the Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2012 reached me, I was thrilled :) More so because none other than every bride's dream couturier - Tarun Tahiliani was kick starting  the week.

Tarun, whose creations have revived the beauty of India's rich heritage, brought in his opulent touches for the bridal collection which feature 41 creations inspired by the glamour of the 20s. The innovative U shaped ramp was turned into a virtual Garden of Eden with foliage, creepers and greenery swirling down from the ceiling and around the stage. Clumps of delicate plants hung from the walls lit with tiny circular bulbs and blue fairy lights twinkled around the ramp. As the lights dimmed, the lit bushes rose up to the ceiling to the strains of melodious music and the gentle voice of Sonam Kalra, the trained opera and Hindustani singer. The backdrop of painted temples created a very earthy character for the amazing show that was about to unfold in front of our eyes.

Stunning lehengas, paneled long cholis in tulle and silk with gorgeous embroidery, draped net saris with superb craftsmanship, self designed brocade maroon saris with heavy crystal and sequined borders, long gleaming velvet appliquéd covers with matching pants, peplum cholis, asymmetrical lehengas with churidars and sleeveless tunics over shot silk voluminous skirts- the collection was pure luxury from the studios of Tarun Tahiliani.

The eye-catching slim mermaid gown kurta, glamorous shararas with kurtis, keyhole jackets, contemporary anarkalis in juicy citrus shades with meshes of Swarovski elements brought in a hint of old world. Embellishemnts were lavish with zardozi, sequins, antique gold work, clusters of crystals and appliqués which added to the beauty of the garments. Volume was the key word for the collection with just a few slim line kurtas with sexy low backs.

Men’s wear was as ornate with bundgalas and sherwanis favoured by Tarun, teamed with churidars or comfortable dhotis.

The colours chosen were ideal for the wedding mood with reds as the predominant colour while fuchsia, rani pink, deep saffron, ivory, pink, peach, beige, maroon and black appeared in perfect harmony.

The very lovely Chitrangada Singh was the show stopper in a sensational ivory net lehenga, choli and dupatta creation splashed lavishly with crystals and sequins.

Presenting an utterly feminine line that refined luxury combined with the grandeur of his embellishments, Tarun’s collection was a dream to behold.

Does bridal fashion also excite you as much as it excites me? Then stay tuned for the next post too!

Travel Tales: The Singapore Flyer

When you want to take in the whole of Singapore in a single glance, head to the Singapore Flyer. The Singapore Flyer is the tallest Ferris wheel in the world at a staggering height of 42 stories. A complete 360 degrees round takes half an hour during which you can see the entire view of the city including bits of Malaysia in the night. The view is beautiful, something you will never forget. How the 30 minutes get over, you don't even realise :)

I wore my beloved purple pants with a simple loose satin shirt and my leopard print bow flats, so basically a simple outfit because the heat that day was unbearable and it was important to wear clothes that let some air get to you!

Black Satin Top - Cotton On
Purple Pants - Spring Break (earlier worn here)
Leopard Print Bow flats - Forever New
Golden Bag - Sisley
(earlier worn here and here)
Pearl and Horse shoe pendant necklace - Accessorize
Bangles - Hill Road and Colaba Causeway

The Singapore Flyer in motion
The Marina Bay Sands hotel and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands

The floating stadium
The Marina Bay waterfront
Gardens by the Bay
This is the last post in the series on our Singapore trip. We didn't click any pictures on the last day of our trip but those memories are imprinted in our minds forever :)

How did you like the Singapore Travel Tales? Would love to know.
