A Sequinned Dream - How to wear a Sequin Dress

A Sequin Dress - I had been desiring one since ages, but I also knew that I never wanted to take the chance of ending up looking cheap and tacky. Most times that's what a look ends up in. Mainly because either people don't buy the right dress, or they don't accessorise properly. So when at the recent MANGO sale I saw this perfect sequin dress, I knew I had to have it at that very moment! One for the copper colour, two for the way it fits like a dream without poking(comfort is very important for me) and three for the pretty looking contrasting sequin work over the base sequins. Getting it was like a dream come true!

I wore it to the recent TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe Official India Launch and the compliments never stopped flowing. I'm glad to have found that one dress that has finally ended my long long search.

Dress - MANGO
Black Crocodile skin textured sling purse - KAZO
Black cut-out peep toes - Giovanna, Singapore (last worn here and here)

I am a sucker for deep backs!

So what is it that one needs to keep in mind while wearing a Sequin Dress? Let's run you through some quick tips:
  1. Don't load yourself with jewellery - Since you are already going to be making a shiny statement due to the sequins, jewellery should be minimalistic. A ring or two, a bracelet or a watch(you can even avoid this)  and simple earrings like solitaires will do the trick.
  2. Stick to one sequinned item in the look - Overdoing sequins is a fashion faux pas, so stick to just the sequin dress as you do not want to ruin its effect and keep the accessories neutral or solid coloured to balance the look.
  3. Use textures in accessories - For your shoes and purse think suede, patent leather, patterned leather (like my cut-out peep toes and crocodile skin textured sling purse) as they all can work very well to aesthetically amplify your look.
  4. Choose your inner wear carefully - Sequins reflect light, so you surely don't want any bulges under your dress. Bulges will look bigger when they are shimmering. Wear seamless undergarments for a smooth look. You can also choose well fitting shape-wear that can give your dress a sleek appearance.
  5. Keep the make-up subtle - A pop of colour on your lips, a light eye shadow and some kohl and mascara and that's it!
After keeping all of this in mind, all you need is to add your natural sparkle to the outfit - Your Confident Smile and you are set! :)

So would you dare to wear a sequin dress?

TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe Official India Launch

What does an iconic British hair dressing brand do when they complete 50 years? Well, they take the super smart decision to officially launch in India :) Speedy growth and increasing urbanisation have spawned a new class of consumers with higher disposable incomes and a growing passion for fashion and style in India. Hence, significant new growth opportunities for foreign and domestic players have come into being. So cashing in on that, TONI&GUY officially launched their "Hair meet Wardrobe" concept in India! According to them, perfection happens when the right things come together. Which is why they have created the ultimate style equation – bringing hair and wardrobe together. Just like fashion, how one wear’s their hair speaks volumes about their style. And no one knows style better than TONI&GUY.

A Unilever brand, TONI&GUY products allow you to create runway-worthy looks that never fail to wow each season. And it isn't just for women, men too have an entire range devoted to them. Hence their motto 'Dress From The Head Down' applies to everyone :)

The India launch which was a much awaited affair, witnessed a level of fanfare and glamour not seen before in my life as a blogger. Global Hair Ambassador Mark Hampton introduced the brand, the concept, how London Fashion Week was incomplete without Toni&Guy, and then with the Official Fashion Stylist, Designer Manish Arora, created 3 different looks on the fashionistas for the evening - Casual, Classic & Glamour. My verdict - the philosophy was aptly transformed into appealing and easy to understand visuals for us to take back with us and apply.

Let's decode these looks for you just how Mark showed us, and you can see for yourself how simple they are to do them yourselves:

Casual
The spunk with which Anusha Dandekar carries hereself, the textured top-knot on her looks perfect for a casual time out!

Classic
Soha Ali Khan is one of the few actresses that carries off vintage influenced looks with oomph! Something to do with her blue blood genes for sure. Her vintage side-swept waves created by Mark would classify as uber classic.

Glamour
Glamourous is the only word that comes to my mind when I think of Malaika Arora and that is exactly what was thought when a look for her had to be decided. Her high glamour waves are just perfect!

Shiamak Davar couldn't have ended the evening better than with the "HairMeetWardrobe" theme focusing on the three styles of the evening Casual, Classic and Glamour and the three women who rocked the looks!

And while the night had just begun to rock, I was charmed away by the charming Mark Hampton (such a cutie I tell you!)

The fabulous launch is only making me look forward to their awesome products now in India! While I have picked up a few on my trips abroad, the official launch just makes it easier for us and I can't wait to try the entire range here now!

Trends 2013: Emerald Green and Metallic Statement Necklaces

Last year, Emerald Green was declared as the colour of 2013 by colour corporation Pantone. Who knew that it would turn out to be so well accepted and become such a craze. For me, it's been one of my favourite colours and so I got one more reason to hoard on this colour this year ;) Who doesn't wanna be dressed in the colour of the year?

White Jeans - Westside (last worn here and here)
Brown Heels - Giovanna
Metallic Golden Bag - Sisley (last seen here, here, here and here)

While Statement necklaces have been around for a while, I'm liking the transition from wood and plastic to more chunkier metallic pieces. The thick gold chain with a tribal influenced pendant, diamanté stones and metallic studs all added to the chunky appeal of the necklace that I wore with the lovely emerald green top, both from Romwe for my sister-in-law's house-warming karaoke party.
